History
On September 18, 1895 in the City of Davenport, Iowa the actions of one man would change the
world of healthcare forever. On this day, D.D. Palmer gave the first Chiropractic Correction
to a man by the name of Harvey Lillard, who had been suffering from a hearing loss.
After the correction was given to a bone in his spine, Lillard’s hearing was restored. This was the birth of a
revolutionary healthcare profession that has continued to grow and is now utilized by millions of people around the world.
Throughout the Chiropractic profession, September 18th is celebrated as Founder's Day in honor of the profession's founder D.D. Palmer. From this
year forward, the City of Davenport is celebrating September 18th as Chiropractic Awareness Day in recognition of its historical significance
as the birthplace of the Chiropractic profession. In addition, Chiropractic Awareness Day is a day that the City of Davenport publicly shows its
support for the healthcare of its community and communities around the world by recognizing the value and importance that Chiropractic healthcare
provides for a healthy community.
